Planners and Parlors.

When I come to think of it I am surrounded by planners. Ironically, however, the number of planners I have is inversely proportional to how organized I am. My schedules and to-dos always go haywire. There were even occasions when I fail to attend an appointment because I forgot about it, notwithstanding the fact that I wrote about it in a planner.

It's not the planner's fault. It's just that a certain mentality is hardwired into me. In other words, I am a person who finds it difficult to abide by a rigid schedule. However, in my profession a rigid schedule is common, hence the planners. But like some medicine, these planners seem placebo.  In the previous years I buy them because they're cute and not because they really help me with organizing. Later on I buy them and use them so I could look at it and say, "Hey I've got a life."

As a New Year token, my tutee gave me a 2012 planner. It's simple and I am "using" it now. And just recently, a good friend graduated from the Philippine Military Academy and gave me a PMA Bagwis Class planner.

We were classmates in engineering school for a year. On the second year she decided to join the Academy. During that memorable freshmen year she was the crush of almost all boys in our block. When she came back a year after studying in the academy, our boys turned into sissies compared to her.

Suddenly I am reminded of a joke my father used to crack on me. He said when I grow up I should go to PMA. As in Pedicure, Manicure, Alot.

The Ring

I met up with my friend, one of the Jessicii, in Manila last Saturday. In excitement to see each other, we have planned our activities a month before including all the "chika" we owe from one another. As a token, she bought me a ring of my choice and out of the many designs, I chose this one.

I found this ring very, very useful when you ride a jeepney and there's an annoying girl in front of you. Just imitate Ninoy Aquino on the 500-peso bill. Make sure the ring is facing her. In general, the insinuating gesture is applicable to any annoying person who irks you. But probably what I like most about this ring is that I could use this as a substitute to brass knuckles whenever I want to punch someone infuriating. In addition to the pain and ignominy, the word BITCH is aptly stamped on his or her face.

The Workplace

This is exactly why I need to have a space of my own. Otherwise, roommates would be buried in a heap of scientific journals, handouts, Bato Balanis, and other stuff. The table is equally cluttered, and the bed barely gives space for someone to sleep. When I do sleep I become an instant contortionist, and like a fluid which takes the shape of its container, I content myself with the available space (which I never really took as a discomfort since I only get to sleep for an hour maximum). Oh the life of an academic.

Happy Birthday, World Wide Web!

It's sengil chukha hamnida for the first website ever launched. For us netizens, this might have been one of the greatest moments of history.

The first website ever launched went live on August 6, 1991.

Coffee-oke.

I believe shouting is therapeutic. When all of a sudden the worlds pins you down, and you get to eat dirt from all the distress, shouting at the top of your lungs seems to expel all the stress out. See how Regine does it, with musicality of course. ( And for the record, it's belt, not shout.)

To the few who have taste

 Greetings!

I have a couple of announcements to make concerning you, my dear readers. ( Who still haven't found a way to overthrow my blackmails so you could sever your ties to readership of my blog.)

I have managed, despite my esteemed reputation of barely passing CSC 101, to spice up my blog and incorporate the like button and comments section from Facebook. That is, you can now like any of my posts (or dislike if you will but hey keep it to yourself) by simply hitting the Like button appearing after the title. Likewise, you can post comments at the end of every post.

Words of caution: First, you must have a Facebook account and logged in. (I factor this in because although it may sound highly improbable, there are netizens out there without a Facebook account. Example: Jessica Zafra.) Second, the plug-ins do not appear in the homepage. You must go to the post itself by clicking on its title.

I would like to thank AllBlogTools.com for the codes and the instructions. Still, I must say I have to congratulate myself. Digging into the HTML code was quite a feat. I guess proofreading training back in high school journalism proved eventually useful.

Enjoy reading!

Always,

A not so violent reaction.

PGMA ran for president after saying she won't. She emerged victorious.

ERAP insisted he was innocent even after proven duly guilty of plunder beyond a shadow of doubt. When he ran for president again, he ranked second.

GUTIERREZ went into plea bargaining when she should have prosecuted Garcia fervently. Though the beheading scythe of impeachment looms and although technically she is not, she is still the Ombudsman.

YOU ran for senator after making a major (major) blunder, saying you were coerced by the previous administration to betray your folks, causing others to cause anarchy, lying about making a public apology and indirectly injuring the reputations of people who should have known better than giving you that responsibility you messed up. The least you could have done was stage an "Angelo Reyes" and the worst is run for public office. And yet,

you WON.

Fly Me to the Moon

I want to escape all this ruckus. And one solution would have to be flying myself to the moon. If only I'm as ingenious as Phineas and Ferb, the siblings who could conjure a spaceship in their backyard without so much of a fuss.

But then again I'm JanMell. And I should take responsibility for whatever lapses of judgment I had incurred that made things wonderfully worse. I seriously pray that these PALAKASAN issues be settled already with the least possible damage to friendships. Personally, I don't care If I lose the sympathy of a whole college. What bugs me is to lose the closeness of a single friend.

*****************

During our Plant Tour in Cebu I bought a copy of Jessica Zafra's Twisted 8 and 1/2. (I also obtained a copy of Ian McEwan's Saturday and the classic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas by Jules Verne. Until that time, I did not know that Jules Verne is the most translated author of all time.) One article in the compilation was entitled The Moon, The Meryl. There's this thing about the Meryl Syndrome. Apparently, people doesn't get excited with the excellent performances of Meryl Streep anymore because they have become used to her superb artistry. After reading it, I thought the same idea applies to Regine Velasquez, this time in singing. I call it The Regine Syndrome when listeners do not get too enthralled with you singing on stage because they have become used to you singing beautifully and mind-blowingly. (That's actually literally mind-blowing, try reaching B5 with pure chest and you'll know what I mean.) I think that explains why the only video of Regine who reached a million views is the video where she sang Beyonce's Listen with awfully wrong lyrics. The public wants something different from Regine's impeccable vocals. And that would spark their interest towards her.

*************
Have you made a bus wait and delayed a field trip departure just because of books? Yes I did. Thanks to the hardbound Ian McEwan, the classic Jules Verne and the wicked Grungella, Ms. Zafra. They cost Php 300 all in all and of course a scold from the official chaperon. Note to self: Do not say "be back in a jiffy" if going to National Bookstore, or any bookstore for that matter.

Creativity and it's serpentine course

Lately, I thought my creativity has dried out. Probably due to entertaining cynical beliefs too much, or I just hate getting cheesy. I want to get it back. The creative process is a sine qua non to future world domination. So, I acquainted myself, step by step, and dizzied myself with this latest comic release of Subnormality.( Cripes, I'm really addicted to this. But it's better than addiction to Tagalog pocketbooks. Cynical attack.)

To those who need a bigger image, which is practically everyone, it's here.

How Ironic!

Recently, I've been fascinated with something I would like to label as a no nonsense comic strip. It's called subnormality, something I found out from idly browsing at cracked.com. It's part of an archive of comic strips at www.viruscomix.com. I could put the comic strips that I like most here, and that would be everything. It's got wit, humor, and it's wicked. I particularly like this one.

Typically Him

Me: What do you call this? (Pointing to a figure on the bedsheet of a friend.)
Him: ummmm...
(
After 1 min..)
Him: Seal. That's a seal. (
After probably choosing between sea cows, dugongs, and manatees)
Me:
(Raising my eyebrows in agreement) And what do you call a seal's offspring?
Him: Still a seal?
(on a sarcastic tone..)
Me: Duh. I mean a young seal?
Him: A baby seal!
(on an even more sarcastic tone..)
Me: Wanna die?
Him: Dunno.
Ano nga ba?
Me: (Feeling superior, as If i know something of cosmic significance.) It's called a pup!
Him: Oh really???? Thank you for that NUGGET OF WISDOM!
(this time, sarcasm is superlative..)
Me:
*sigh*
